The life of the Holy Spirit that birthed Five Streams Community Church ironically began with a death. After the tragic death of a young woman, Father Jon was asked to preside at her funeral. Many young adults were in attendance. After the funeral a number of young adults began to inquire as to the location of Jon's church so they could attend. At the time, Jon was serving as a chaplain, and was not pastoring a church, but the incident simmered in his mind and his spirit.
Some time passed and a small group of people approached Jon and expressed their desire to be a part of a church that was faithful to the teachings of the Bible, contemporary in expression, and connected to the values and practices of the ancient Christian church. The group was convinced that the ethos of the ancient church- rooted in the centrality of Christ and expressing its worship in the proclamation of Jesus Christ in Scripture, Community, and Communion was relevant to reaching and impacting the prevailing culture.
Together they believed that God was leading them to create a unique church that would reach people- especially those who had no church, and those who had no Christian background.
He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Luke 10:2
